Winter 2002
Instructor: S.K. Lodha
TTH 12:00–1:45 p.m.

The focus of this topics course will be scientific visualization. The course will begin by providing some basic foundational material corresponding to different grid types, data types, computational and physical space mapping techniques and interpolation methods typically employed in scientific visualization. We will then discuss scalar, vector and possibly tensor data visualization. Emphasis will be on state-of-the-art techniques to prepare the student to pursue research in this and related areas. Topics include compression of large data sets, feature-based visualization, and time-varying data. Additional possible topics include emerging areas of multimedia environments, sensing, tracking and augmented reality.

I am open to inclusion of additional or alternative topics in this class. Please feel free to email me or talk to me to persuade/influence me to pull/push me into alternative directions.

There will be a final project of students’ choice. This project can either be a programming project (involving graphics an user interfaces) or a literature search (50%). There will be three or four homeworks. There will be readings and a presentation in the class (50%).
