Winter 2000
A survey of film music including major film composers such as, among others, Alfred Newman, Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, and Toru Takemitsu, as well as a discussion of current trends in film music. Techniques and styles of film music are explored through lectures, required listenings, readings, and viewing of relevant films. A musical background, including the ability to read music, is helpful but not necessary.
