[MUSC-080D-01][MUSC-080H-01][MUSC-080M-01] Music 80D Web - Music and the WorldWideWeb: Music and the WorldWide Web is an exploration into every kind of musical experience available today on the Internet: history and research, commercial opportunities, composition tools, performance interactions, etc. A mixture of lecture, demonstration, computer labs, guest speakers, and discussion approach this wealth of topics from many angles. Students prepare a creative project using what's out there, learning how to get it, what to do once you've acquired, and how to publish and even sell the results. Music 80H, "American Popular Music" Instructor: Mark Forry Surveys popular music in the U.S. from origins to the present, but with special attention to the development and styles of rock. Music 80M, "Film Music, A Course Description" Instructor: Dr. Laura Schwendinger A survey of film music by the major film composers. Will include study of film scores by, among others, Alfred Newman, Max Steiner, Bernard Herrmann, Toru Takemitsu and Ennio Morricone, with viewings of movies such as The Adventures of Robin Hood, Citizen Kane, Vertigo, Sparticus, Ran among others. In addition, there will be discussion of the contributions of composers such as Aaron Copland, Serge Prokofiev and Leonard Bernstein as well as discussion of current trends and film composers. The techniques and styles of film music will be explored through lectures, required listenings, readings and viewing of relevant films.
