ARTZ 101/HUMN 101: KRISHNA IN INDIAN MYTH AND THE ARTS

Regent's Professor: Kapila Vatsyayan

Dr. Vatsyayan is the founder-director of the Indira Gandhi National Sentre of the Arts in New Delhi, and an internationally renowned authority on the arts of India.

This course will provide an introduction to the arts and cultures of India through representations and manifestations of Krishna in visual art, music, dance, and literature. The focus on Krishna will enable students to follow multi-disciplinary approaches that will include written, visual, and performative elements in various media.

Lectures twice weekly with slides, films, etc. to compliment the topics in the new Media Theater. Students will be evaluated on two papers (5-7 pages each) and mid-term and final exams.

Enrollment for this course is unlimited.
