Italian Literature - Spring 1998

[LTIT-150B-01]

LTIT 150B-Modern Italian Theater

This course is open only to students with several quarters of previous study in Italian (normally through Italian 5).

Our readings will consist of plays in Italian by such modern masters as the "absurd" Luigi Priandello, the Neapolitan comic playwrite Eduardo De Filippo, the scandalous and amusing Dario Fo (recent winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature), the feminist Franca Rame, and others. The course will feature short writings in Italian on a regular basis, and an emphasis on lively conversation about the plays. Midterm exam, no final.

We will also view several film versions of the plays we read. For more information, please contact Deanna Shemek at Cowell College 103: 459-2609/459-2716 or shemek@cats.
