[ART-021-01] Art 21-Introduction to Computer Art Times: Tuesday - Thursday 9:00-11:45 or Tuesday - Thursday 2:00-4:45 Professor: Sharon Daniel Enrollment limited to art and pre-art majors or by permission. Course Description A Basic Introduction to the use of the computer as a fine art tool and medium. The course addresses basic skills and concepts relevant to contemporary research issues and art practices. Students will be introduced via laboratory exercises to the fundamentals of graphics and programming. Brief demonstrations of relevant software will be provided. Students will be expected to work independently and in groups. Assignments may include basic scripting, hypertext and web publishing, basic electronics, object-oriented programming, algorithmic programming, digital image acquisition and manipulation. Readings, class discussions and critiques will engage students in a cross-disciplinary examination of the complex ways new technologies are affecting and are affected by contemporary culture. Students must also enroll in one of two scheduled section meetings maximum enrollment - 40 students per section
