Frequently Asked Questions Grading Q: How do I change my grading option? A: Follow the instructions on this page: How to Change a Grade Option or Secondary Section. Q: Can I convert my Pass/No Pass grades into letter grades for a GPA based on my (performance) evaluations? A: The Office of the Registrar does not convert evaluations to a GPA. Institutions to which you are applying may calculate a GPA from your evaluations, if necessary. The official transcript explains the different grading policies and indicates students who are not eligible for a GPA based on year of admission. If you encounter problems because of an absent GPA, contact your College for assistance. Q: How do I request an Incomplete grade? A: An Incomplete may be assigned at the instructor's discretion when work for a course is of passing quality but is not complete. Contact the course instructor prior to the end of the quarter to discuss the possibility of receiving an Incomplete grade. Q: I received an Incomplete grade. What happens next? A: Undergraduates are allowed up to one quarter to file a Petition for Removal of Incomplete. Graduate students are allowed up to one calendar year. See the Academic and Administrative Calendar for deadline dates. Petition for Removal of Incomplete forms are available at the Office of the Registrar. There is a $10 fee per course. Failure to file a petition by the deadline will result in the Incomplete grade lapsing to a F or NP, depending on the grading option in effect. Q: How do I check my grades or GPA? A: Log into MyUCSC and go to My Student Center. In the Academics section, click Grades. Select the quarter you wish to view and click Continue. Evaluation Q: What is an evaluation? A: A performance evaluation is a description of the quality and characteristics of a student's performance in a course. Q: How can I view my evaluations? A: Students can view evaluations on MyUCSC; select My Student Center from the left-hand menu, then Evaluations (in the same menu). Q: I am missing an evaluation. What do I do? A: The deadlines for faculty to submit evaluations are listed in the Academic and Administrative Calendar. If an evaluation is missing 30 days after the deadline, contact the instructor. Q: What if there is an error in one of my evaluations? A: If the error is a misspelling in your name or if you are referred to by the wrong gender, contact the Evaluations Office directly at nes@ucsc.edu. To correct any other error, contact the instructor and request a revised evaluation.
